What is an RTD temperature sensor

An RTD (or resistance temperature detector) is a temperature sensor that contains a resistor that changes its resistance value as temperature changes. The most popular RTD is Pt100. They have been used to measure temperature in laboratories and industrial processes for many years and have a reputation for accuracy, repeatability and stability.

Most RTD components consist of a certain length of fine wire wound on a ceramic or glass core. This element is usually very fragile, so it is usually placed in a sheathed probe to protect it.
