How does the cartridge heater work?

Home    更新    How does the cartridge heater work?

The cartridge heater consists of a resistance coil wound on a ceramic core surrounded by a dielectric and wrapped in a metal sheath. The kinetic heat transferred to the sheath through the coil will heat the sheath. Then, the heat is transferred to the internal metal parts that require heat.

In order to install cassette heaters in low or medium temperature applications (600°F or lower), it is usually necessary to drill holes with a general purpose drill. A hole of 0.003 inch to 0.008 inch can be drilled in the nominal size of the drill, so that a fit of 0.009 inch to 0.014 can be achieved. Although this mix allows for a looser optimum heat transfer, it helps to install and remove cassette heaters, especially cassette heaters with long sheaths. At high power densities, close coordination is more important. Holes should be drilled and reamed, not just with general purpose drills. With a tighter fit, the heater will run at a lower temperature and have a longer life.

What is the operating temperature of the cartridge heater?

The cartridge heater can operate at low, medium and high power densities. They are designed to withstand operating temperatures up to 1400°F. However, the optimal operating temperature will depend on the application in which you use the cartridge heater.

It is also important to note that there are many factors that affect the actual temperature of industrial heaters and heaters, such as the power density of the cartridge heater, the sealing of the cartridge in the hole, and the thermal conductivity of the heated material. Monitor the temperature of the material during the heating cycle. For high temperature applications, such as applications above 1000°F, Incoloy sheath is recommended for maximum heat transfer and durability.

Considering the operating temperature, the electrical termination of the cartridge should also be considered, which is also very important. When using box heaters at higher temperatures, the electrical terminals should be different from ordinary high-temperature leads, or the box body should be designed to keep the temperature around the leads below the temperature limit.
